Sooo. I change my oil, or have it changed, every 3k miles. But what about time? I'be only put 1k miles since last change, but was 6 months ago. Am going on a decent road trip soon, does the oil need changing again? Sorry for the rookie question. Thanks!
If my oil was clean but lets say 6 months has passed, I would consider the conditions that the bike sat in while it wasn't running. If I was concerned about moisture build up I would get it hot & dump it out. If that was not an issue, I would run it for 2000 miles the way it is!
Always best to swap out your oil before you put it to sleep in the winter because dirty oil has acids in it that will chew on your bearings where clean oil will not!
Hatch.
The bike must be ridden a minimum of 3k miles every 6 months or the insides of the engine will rust. No oil out there can prevent that. Stop neglecting your bike.
Wow! Thanks for the feedback! No moisture here, its AZ. Just a wimp for cold weather, 35-45 degrees is cold for us here. Lol! 09 SG with 16k on the clock. Running Syn3. Guess I'll just drive her!
