better off not to start at all unless you warm it up good and ride min 20 miles. Others wise prep for storage, chgange oil , hook up tender and leave it alone

I agree with KeithB,,,1 hour is abit much at idle. I would reccomend bundlin down and take it for short ride every few weeks...or winterize it. Have a good day & a happy new year.

What part of the country do you live in? Are there any days that you could maybe go for a short putt like 10 or 20 miles? The reason I ask is that I live in northern Ohio and don't really "winterize" my bike. But, there is always a few days a month that the temp gets above freezing and the roads are dry so I take her out for a putt to "blow the cobwebs out" and keep the battery up. I beleive that this is a better method than just starting it to blow moisture out and keep things lubricated. Now, this is just my opinion, so if anyone else disputes this chime in. As far as letting it run for an hour, I really can't tell you if this will do any harm or not. If you can't ride at all, you may be better off pulling the battery (get a battery tender), put some Stab-L in a full tank of gas, raise the tires off of the ground, cover her up, and leave her til spring. Congrats on your bike purchase and enjoy it.

First, just starting it andjust letting itwarm up is the worst thing you can do. You are fouling your oil. Second, you are letting it run for an hour at a time? I surprised it hasn't melted into a molten blob by now. If you aren't going to ride it, change the oil, fog the engine, and pull the battery out, wipe everything metal down with WD-40 to prevent rust and leave it alone till you plan on riding it.

I would prep the bike for storage if you cant ride it.Letting it idle for an hour at a time is going to over heat the top end. This is an air cooled engine meaning air has to pass thru the fins to cool the motor, this achieved while riding.

what waap said. As sad as it seems, you've got to just let it sit. Prep it, then let it sit.
