Big Trouble.
I have two older Harleys that I will be selling this year and I have a ton of service records on each of them and this doesn't include the stuff that I've done, and tha parts that I've added myself.
Always ask where the bike was serviced and if they have any service records.
I just had the S/E HyrdraulicCam Chain Tensioner Kit installed in one of those bikes and I read somewhere that it increases the trade-in value of the bike as much as $1000 (probably half of that) but it is a good selling point to someone who is aware of the problem with the earlyT/C's.
FWIW, the tensioners that were removed had about 35,000 or so miles on them and they definitely (especially the inner adjuster) needed replacing soon.

personally, i doubt that it would raise the trade in value at all. either way, dealer is gonna try and lowball you... now, when he goes to sell it, you know he's gonna use it as a selling point.
A few years back, I picked up a conversion van on Ebay from 2 states away, the seller had no problems to report, and it was too far away to go see it before the end of the auction.
Won the auction, and the guy agreed to deliver the van to me for the price of fuel.
The van was delivered at night, so paid for it, and they left. The next few days, after driving it some, I discovered that the driveshaft was totally out of balance, the vibrations made it almost impossible to drive, I don't know how he ev er made it to NH from NY that way. So, I emails the guy, and told him of the problem, and some other items that the didn't include in the description, so he says get an estimate, we can work this out.
A week later, I came back with a $1450 estimate for repairs, guess what..he actually refunded $750 of my money!! Imagine that! That's why I say try to get him to pay some of it, there are some responsible people out there, that just might be willing to help.
It also helped that I discovered that he was a NY state licensed car dealer, and after some digging into the state laws, I reminded him that it was a misdemeanor to knowingly
sell a vehicle with suspension or drive train problems in NY. Even though he didn't have a dealership, he got his license just to move a few cars on Ebay, that was enough to scare him into paying me, to get me off his back.. haha
