Hey guys. I'm new to this forum and to the Harley world. I just bought my first Harley and have a few general questions. I'm looking to do some updates/modifications to my 2000 Ultra classic and need some help. I was wondering if I could update my headlight/auxiliary lights to the newer style smooth lights without any complications. Is it as easy us just mounting and plugging in or are there electrical system upgrades to be done?
I also was wondering if the Swingarm/fender will allow for a little wider tire.
I recently installed the Truck-Light Phase 7 LED headlight on my '99 FLHT Electra Glide Standard. It took about three minutes with a screwdriver and plugged right in. If you use the search function on the forum, there are many good reviews and pics of the various brands/options.
Are you looking into LED lights? If so the headlight and the driving lights are very easy. The blinkers are a bit more trouble, but still not difficult.
Welcome and congrats on the bike! Usually you can go up one size on the tire, sometimes 2...unless the last owner already did. Check the manual if you have one (get one if not) to see what they recommended stock. My rocker, I went up 2 sizes, front and back. Snug in back but fits. Ride safe.
You may want to re-post this over in the Touring Bikes area, great group of guys there. As far as your tire you should be able to go up to a 140 tire, or a MU tire with no problems. Don't think you are going get much more without running into problems hitting your drive belt.
You can use direct replacement Bulb Part Number 886 to replace the original driving light bulbs. 886 bulbs are 50 watts each. That's like having two extra Low beams. BTW 886 is a universal part number so any manufacturer that makes an 886 bulb will be OK. Visit your local Pep Boys, Checker/Shucks/Kragen or Autozone they all carry them.
