Default lowers

I recently upgraded to a ultra classic and was wondering ,do most people take off their lowers in the summer cause when it got warmer out those pipes were gettin a little bit warm on the legs even with the vents open

I've run mine without them. No difference. Motor runs same temp. also. A set of highway pegs will get a good breeze runnin up your legs.

I bought an Ultra because I WANTED lowers & a tourpak --- not so I could take them off. Some people do, though.

In the summer, I leave the lowers on, but take out the sliding doors. It is much cooler.
I can't explain why but removal doesn't seem to effect the rain protection.

I'll tell you what fellas. I was planning on taking the lowers off on my Ultra but it sure seems like it won't make me or the bike cooler. Thanks for the heads up. So taking the vent off does help a little?

Me and a buddy were talking about adding lowers for the winter. We had a bit of a discussion about taking them off in the summer. He seems to think HD says take em off when the temp goes over 80.

Same here, except I took mine off last summer when I rode thru Death Valley at 119°. It didn't help much

Removing the lowers is one of the first things I did on my last two bikes. Don't like em, and yeah, there is more air flow without them. In colder weather (below 45*) I have some soft lowers I use sometimes.
