OK I have looked on the AMA site for the helmet laws for the 39 states we plan on traveling through this summer but they don't indicate what type of helmet is required.
I know some states allow a half helmet but some require a 3/4 helmet and the AMA web site will link you to the law but the law usually indicate that the helmets are approved by some entity with in the state and does not define the type helmet required.
Any one have an easy solution?
June first is not to far away and I don't really want to have to do that much research before we leave.
I still have to figure out how to operate this new zumo 665 I got delivered yesterday and get it all hooked up, install my fog lights and get the 25,000 mile service done.
If the helmet has a dot tag/sticker or a Snell sticker - it will be legal in all states requiring helmets. It won't make any difference if it is a 1/2, 3/4 or full face helmet. I am not aware of any states that have banned 1/2 helmets - what they have banned are 1/2 helmets that are a novelty or a fake.......paul

I second what Paul said.
I try to plan my route through free states so they get the bulk of my money as a thank you-

This is the best link if truly want to know the Helmet laws state by state .. Illinois and Iowa are the only truly Helmet Free States .. The rest have certain restrictions ..
The wife and I stopped going on trips with our bikes just because of the states different laws.Trying to get updates was next to impossible some even said it was up to the LEO who may stop you.Now states are adopting their own unique noise laws so riders beware.
