Test rode a Road Glide this weekend and I have a question regarding the wind. My wife said she is catching more wind than she does on the Ultra Classic. Has anyone encountered this and is there a fix for the wind, maybe a deversion? I know the two fairings are completely diffrent, but happy wife=happy life!
I have an Ultra Classic and do not own a road glide. However I believe the windshield on the RG is considerable shorter than the Ultra so the wind path is probably lower. Some Road Glide owners can tell you for sure. I believe there are other windshield available to block more wind and to divert it up and over. Good Luck.
Which one did you ride?
There is a lot of wind coming up from underneath the fairing.
If there is an actual windshield on it, unlike the Road Glide Custom's wind deflector, this is probably the culprit.
HD makes air deflectors that go between the crash bars and fairing that help with this a ton. Of course these deflectors used to be stock on the Ultra but not any more. Fortunately they are only $30 to $40 for the pair and they just snap onto the tank bolts and the crash bars. This was the first thing I did when I got my Road Glide last year. Most Road Glide owners will agree they're a necessity not a luxury.
Good luck!
Any or all the suggestions above will be of help w wind problems. The HD tall worked well for me and then went to a medium height Clearview with the vent. Next time I'll go back to the stock 08 HD windshield with a vent. Seat selection can also change things.
As stated, it could be wind coming from up underneath. What kind of wind was the wifey experiencing? A buffeting or swirling type wind or a straight on wind? If it's buffeting or swirling, it could be coming from underneath.
Ya gotta remember, the RG windshield is set forward a bit further than your Ultra. That will cause the wind to come down in the passengers face rather than over her head.
