dropped off the fatboy for the 10k service and a new rear tire yesterday. I really wanted to try out an Ultra but they couldn't let me have it until next week. =( And some other goober had already gotten to the street glide. So... I went home on a Road King yesterday.
Still another one of those times that I am REALLY happy that I got the fatboy. The RoadKing is cool... My wife LOVES the passenger seat. But... I dunno. I just don't feel as at home on the King as I do the fatboy.
The sixth gear is cool... but really only if I was over 70-80 MPH...If you try to cruise at like 65 with it in sixth it just seems... anemic. Just my opinion.
But whoever decided to put the light on the speedo to show you are in sixth gear.... That **** needs to win the Nobel Prize or something. Holy crap is that a good idea. I wish I had one on my bike for fifth gear. You all know what I am talking about... After merging on the highway you start amping up the RPMs and then you try to go into sixth.... Ooops. This bike doesn't have a sixth.
A VERY bright green #5 on the speedo would fix that.
The looking for another gear when there isn't one is right up there with the "Angry Left Turn Signal" problem. =)
Anyway... The 96" is kind of a sleeper. When I first started riding the bike I was like, "What is the big deal... dang thing just lugs around." By the time I got it on the backroads near the house... You can get that thing to like 50 in second gear... And it will HAUL BUTT.
And is it just me or are the '07s quieter stock than previous years? Sounded like I was on a Honda for crying out loud.
6th gear indicator is nice, when I picked mine up I rode about twenty miles on the interstate before realizing I was still in 5th gear. With the new gear spacing, they really pull hard in 3rd and 4th gear. Very surprising to me at least. The mufflers were redesigned and are louder than 06's till about 3 grand, but then they get quiet as a church mouse. Or it just may be the wind.

nope... not the wind... this thing is just VERY quiet. Which I guess if I was doing a cross country trip I may like... but I dunno. I have gotten used to the BSSs on my bike.
That's funny!! I thought I was the only one who kept looking for the next gear that wasn't there. A tach or a light for fifth is exactly what I need for my 05 RKC.
I think it would be nice to have indicators for ALL gears. Sometimes I try to take off in 2nd. Many times i try to shift up and there aint no more gears. For the money spent on Harleys youd think the would be on it automatically
Our Motor Officers are starting to get their 07 Roadkings (with the 103) in. The stock pipes on them sound louder than the stockers on the 06s. Maybe more burnt fuel and volumn of air going thru the same sized pipe makes for a louder exhaust? Don't know the reason why, but they sound louder to me.

They are louder.

Man, If you asked for a loaner here they would laugh you out of the building, be glad you have a dealer that will do that. But it would be cool to be able to drop off the bike and try somnething different.
