Default Help with noise.

2012 48, 2600 miles on it

Yesterday I noticed after my bike was warmed up that makes a kind of rattling rolling noise when the clutch is out. It reminds of a loud throw out bearing in a car. If I pull it in it seems to stop or quite down. It seems to be coming from the right side of the motor. Does it in and out of neutral. Doesn't seem to make the noise until the bike a really warmed up from riding for a while.

Any Ideas?

Last week I had a loud rattling noise come from my front left side. Only in neutral. It stopped when I pull the clutch in. --The vibration on the handlebars was causing the clutch lever to vibrate-- I stopped getting worked up about odd noises coming from my bike years ago.

You have described what sounds like it may be the Inner Primary Bearing going south, to me.

Hope I,m wrong....

1. With the bike hot and running, pull up beside a brick/concreate building off your left side.(this will help you to hear it better)

2. with the engine running, place the trans in neutral and let out the clutch. If it begins to sound like a pair of metal roller skates going down a sidewalk... that's a pritty good indication.

3. pull in the clutch and, put it in gear. Noise goes away?...yup...prob. bearing. nope...somethin' else.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes....Tim(HT)

Thanks for your input. If it is something that bad the bike is under warranty so they will be fixing it.

I coud be wrong,... that's usually something that come on with a lot more miles than that.

it just sounded awfully familure. I've been down that road a couple time with my '06.

It's a "drop off" in the morning, "Pick up" in the afternoon kinda job. I'd take it to my Mech. and have a little talk with him, if I were you...

Yeah I am going to ride it to the dealer tomorrow so they can take a look at it. I have been reading some threads on the IPB failures. Seems common, only thing is that the noise really seems to be louder on the right side of the motor. The IPB is on the left side correct? I was also wondering if it was a loose primary chain but thats left side as well.

It does it though all the gears, can hear it while riding and my bike is not quiet either.

Do you by chance have a link to the TSB?

Neutral rattle does not occur in gear. Only while sitting idling in Neutral. I don't have a copy but I'll bet Dawg does.
