I was in the middle of three lanes in town, and I noticed up ahead that a car was causing a little backup in the left lane. As I got beside the car, I looked in to see if somebody was having a heart attack, or trying to lick a CD clean. Nope, some chick had a phone in her lap. I don't normally see them, so it was weird. I started watching her. As she drove, she was drifting a little, and she didn't stop for a light like she should have. I got to thinking that girl is probably the one to run into me at a stop light, when she doesn't have a car right in front of her to let her know when to stop. Makes me kind of uncomfortable riding around the high school
Jimmy, you could take it a step further and say it isn't the texting at all, it's the accidents that happen. You're right, some people are more aware of what's going on around them and are able to multitask effectively. But it seems that all you're left with is the fools that can't... but CAN kill you. What you gonna do with them? If they've already killed someone, then it's too late to change them. And I don't think most folks pay too much attention to what happens to others that are convicted of killing while behind the wheel. I think what Springer3 said about disabling the phone at speed is a good idea, but you'd have a bunch of pissed off passengers.
riding on I-84 yesterday, east bound...at cruise control on bike at 70mph, just going with the flow...one of the exits...nissan sentra merges and let it come in front of me...all of a sudden slows down...swerves lightly...story short, i pulled up next to it to pass and noticed driver on phone like texting...i just shook my head and sped off...away...
the problem isn't texting and driving, its bad drivers texting..i have written messages while riding.
The problem IS texting and driving/riding. If you are paying attention to the phone in your hand you are not paying attention to the car/bike you are in/on! This is how innocent people die!
