One more vote for tube. The patch is probably ok, depends on where it was and how it was patched.

Define "patched up nicely".

Patched with a plug from the outside, good enough to get you to civilization. Glued and patched with a rubber plug from the inside, I'd say ride it till the tread wears out. If really concerned with it, throw a tube in and go.

I would not have a problem running a plugged tire that had a patch on the inside, as long as the hole was not near the sidewall.

Yep.....pick'd up a roof'n nail on a new Dunlop GT502 (less than 2K on)....dealer would'n touch plug'n.....but my Indy did....put another 9K on it. he used somethin' along this line,think....

Plugged or patched? If the patch is done right it should be OK. Our service center patches pursuit rated tires, so I gotta think if it's good enough for that...

Just use it the way it is for the trip. You'll be fine. When you get back you can light up the rear wheel and burn it off. Then buy a new one.

another vote for tubed. only adds a little expense, you'll still be able to go on your trip, and you won't be compromising safety.
