The bike side of the opener is a transmitter that you wire into your bike and it is activiated by the high beam switch. Deosn't have anything to do with the high beam headlight directly. You could mount a separate switch if you wanted.

There is a small transmitter that you connect to the headlight wires that will energize the transmitter on your car / motorcycle
It comes with a receiver / garage door opener unit that you mount inside the garage
so when you flash your lights, it will transmit like a regular opener.
I have mine hooked to a recessed waterproof switch on the bike

my only problem was when I had a HID light, it would vary the voltage enough when I started the bike that it would activate the door. that is why I moved it to a switch
