Default Relay problems?

I was on my bike last night and suddenly all my lights stopped working. When i turn my key to turn the lights on there is a long click/ting coming from the fender where the fuses are. Im not sure if its the fuses because the head light starts to come on but then goes out when i hear that click. When the light comes on its very dim. I have a 87 sportster 883

Don't know too much about Sportsters, but if it's an '87 it probably has circuit breakers rather than fuses. Most likely a 30amp main and a few 15amp individual circuits. They are about $6 each and I would replace them all if one of them is acting up. I just did this on my '86 FXR. The headlight does not have a relay. The wiring goes straight from the circuit breaker, through the handlebar switches, to the headlamp.

Hope this helps.

sounds like you have a short and it is tripping the circuit breaker...Have you changed anything recently? grips? handlebars?

Does it start? Because it sounds more like the battery.

Make sure all your battery connections are clean and tight including your grounds. Make sure your battery is in good shape. These motorcycle batteries are good but not great. Relays are cheap replace all. Circuit breaker is higher amp load. When it trips the whole bike should be dead.
