I was on my bike last night and suddenly all my lights stopped working. When i turn my key to turn the lights on there is a long click/ting coming from the fender where the fuses are. Im not sure if its the fuses because the head light starts to come on but then goes out when i hear that click. When the light comes on its very dim. I have a 87 sportster 883
Your '87 uses circuit breakers instead of fuses. They will trip like a fuse blows, but they automatically come back on when the fault is corrected.
My guess is you have a short in the wiring somewhere and when you turn the key on it trips the breaker. Turning it off will reset it and the cycle repeats. You're going to need to figure out which breaker is tripping (sounds like lights) and trace the wiring to find out what is causing it.
