Heather,
I've dealth with the same thing in both hands for years off and on. As I've *cough*aged*cough* it has become more frequent. I've found that most times......either my back or neck is out of alignment. If I visit the Chiropractor......it's all good. There's my .02 anyway.

Okay maybe I don't have carpel tunnel. Does anyone else have their hand get ice cold like mine? Plus I can feel some tingling in my ring & pinky finger. Not as bad as in the thumb and next two but as I sit here right now I have pins & needles in my ring finger also.
I have trigger fingers. Middle finger on left hand, ring finger on right hand. Left hand got so bad, I had to straighten the trigger finger out mannually. At first, it was kind of like a novelty, didn't hurt a bit. Then after a month or so, both hands begin to hurt when the fingers locked. A hand specialist told me that endoscopic surgery is not available for repairing trigger fingers. They must fillet your hand to fix the problem. I decided to wait a while and see.I haven't ridden as much in the last 3 weeks and the triggers are almost gone. I don't plan on reducing my riding, so I'll just have to see where thisgoes.
I was getting that alot....if you spend alot of time on PCs and its in your "mouse" hand, it may be from the fact that when you use the mouse, you keep the arm fixed and only move your hand (bending at the wrist)back and forth to scrolll around. Pain is intense - wrist hurts, hand goes cold, andpain shoots up the forearm to the elbow.
Try 2 things.....adjust your mouse so its SUPER sensitive and doesn't require alot of movement to cover the screen. It'll take some getting used to but its worth it. Thenace-wrap the wrist to limit flexibilityand pick your arm up and use it to move the mouse-iebend at the elbow. Even trying it for a few days helped me big time with that.
I know the pain well but these two things helped me. Good luck with that all.

That sounds like you're losing blood circulation to your hand. DO you use a wrist rest with your mousepad? I work on a computer all day (software developer), and I have a gel wrist rest. Before I got it, I was havin similar issues with my "mouse" hand.
Well I might just have to go to the doc to see what it is and solve this mystery. I can't believe it is just poor circulation since I have a lot of pain in my wrist and forarm too. And it is only the one hand. If I had poor circulation wouldn't it kind of be an all over thing?
Hey HC maybe you are leaving them beers in the freezer to long!!!
Before rushing into carpel tunnel surgery be sure to see a good neurologist and have an EMG done. I had both hands operated on for carpel tunnel by an orthopedic guy. It didn't help. Had Alner nerve (funny bone) surgery done on right elbow. That didn't help. Went to Mayo Clinic and they found a couple bulging discs in the neck. Surgery to remove the discs and fuse the vertibre's and all was fine.

I have gel wrist rest but it actually makes the pins & needles worse (is that possible?). I'll try to consistantly use it for a few days and see if it helps.

Pinky and half of ring finger are alner nerve problems. Thumb, index finger, naughty finger and half of ring finger indicates carpel tunnel problem. If all the fingers are having problems, suspect something in the neck, but you would need an EMG to identify exactly where the problem is.
If your hand is ice cold, does it also get really white looking. There is a disease in which the capilaries in the fingers (or also the toes) are very sensitive to cold and they constrict when they get chilled and block circulation. I don't remember the name of it, but my wife had the problem in her toes for years. She quit smoking and it got better.
