Now I would never just straight up wave at 400 bikes, but In 3 days of riding, the number i did ride past could care less whether another rider was passing or riding next to them. It just seemed odd is all. even now, people don't wave at other bikes here. trust me, I am not one of those guys that look for validation that I am a biker by any means, nor am I offended if I gave a gesture and don't receive one back, just wondering if times are changing and I missed it somehow? and to be completely honest, It seemed like a conversation piece for this forum.
I am afraid to say that I wave back, for courtesy, only if someone wave me first.
Honestly, I usually prefer to keep both hands on the handlebar, as waving almost costed me a crash once (got a deep pot hole, almost lost the bike).

I always feel like a douche when I leave someone hanging. I try to do right, according to my worldview, and that includes taking part in the wave-fest... gay as it may be
So I picked up my new to me 02 Deuce in Brownsville Texas a week ago, and rode it back to West Virginia for a nice little 2300 mile trip. But the strange thing to me was the fact that as I was riding I probably passed around 400 bikes. This was due to it being the end of the holiday weekend and all. passing all of these bikes on the highway and side streets, I had only about 20 wave back to me?! I was a little surprised and disappointed. Believe it or not, the only ones that waved back were kids on sport bikes and a select handful of Harley riders. When did it become unpopular to wave?
Like the old saying goes. Treat others like you what to be treated. Wave your damned hand off if you want to. If they do not wave back. Well. They are less than you are.

I hope that's a joke.
The fact is, I don't know OP from the local child molester or woman abuser (YES, I know for a fact that child molesters & women abusers ride Harleys too). Just because someone else is on 2 wheels, doesn't mean that we have some sort of brotherhood or that I wanna be your friend.
I never initiate a wave and only sometimes wave back. Don't take it personally, OP. Just keep waving, if it makes you happy.
