2007 FLH that will not stop leaking at the bottom of the outer primary cover near the drain plug. I've changed gaskets, followed tightening sequence, and torqued bolts to spec. Any thoughts/experience on usingPermatex gasket sealant on the gasket?? One side? Both sides?
Are you leaking primary oil or transmission oil. if you can get your hands on some UV dye put it in your tranny, do a quick 20 mile ride then shine a UV light on the oil if it glows it's tranny, if no glow it's primary oil.
if it's just leaving a small spot about the size of a quarter or so IIRC it's probably the shifter shaft seal, mine leaked at about 10K
my guess too, probably not the cover. The shifter shaft seal was leaking on my Deuce...I would just give it a wipe after each ride and never saw a drop on the floor
My FB was leaking the same exact way.. would drip a bit after it shut down.. drove me nuts thinking it was the drain plug, primary gasket.. tracked it down to the Inner primary bearing seal.. the inner sleeve walked out and left the outer seal lip riding against air.. luckily its a two lip seal and the inner lip keeps a majority of the fluid back..
theres a thread in the Primary Tech section.. a couple of pics..

its actually a very poor designed shaft , hub assembly. they should have either left the sleeve out and used a smaller diameter seal and a bearing assembly with a inner race, which most are installing. Though just designing the damm sleeve to be longer to meet the back of the clutch hub would have been a einstein moment for the engineers.. . theres about a 1/2" gap between the sleeve and hub and this allows the sleeve to walk out.. just plain poor design..

I put Mobil 1 75-90 synthetic gear lube in mine, and it started leaking. Went back to dino 75-90 gear lube, and it quit. Has not leaked for 10,000 miles anyway. That is in my 5 speed on my 99 EVO.
If it is going to seep syn when find it. I still prefer syn but I did have to fix a few seeps.
