Moe--Actually the desert preserves the wiring and electricals much better than a damp/marine environment.

[QUOTE=Inspector 12;10038533]In 1980 I bought a 1976 FLH with 8000 miles on it. Four year old bike, seemingly low mileage. At the time of purchase the salesman mentioned the previous owner was a farmer who only went on one ride a year and bought a new bike every four years or so....

Was that the same salesman that was selling a car from a little old lady from Pasadena?

I think the first clue would be the name of the place " Honest Al's "

All you guys that are saying "go with a newer model" must be of the mindset that you have to replace your cage every 4 years also.

Damn.

I ride a 1980 with so many miles the odometer lost count and all my cars make it to at least 200,000+ miles. I had a 95 with 315,000 miles on it. My "new" car is a 2000 with 220,000 miles on it.

Grow a pair, learn some basic mechanics and get the "ancient" bike if thats what you want. Geez.

I consider my '07 with 40k miles a garage queen. But once outside it is a Road King.

I don't know where you guys hibernate that can't find parts or mechanics for an evo. They are everywhere. A '98 is almost new to me.

Got a 01' Road King this Jan for $7K. Not exactly a garage queen as it had 25K miles on it and was a former police bike. Actually used private party financing through HD to get it. HD dealership inspected it and gave it a clean bill of health. Beyond replacing the battery and gas havent put any other real money into it. I'm very happy with it. Some co-workers even turned me on to a great non-dealer mechanic, with non dealer prices when it comes time for maintenance. I hope to keep it forever or even pass it to my son when that day comes.
