Default 2012 Sturgis, Rides, Avoid Nemo

FYI. Just got back from the Black Hills. Rode Spearfish Canyon south from 90 to Deadwood. Loved it as usual.

However, from Deadwood to Rapid City, we took Nemo Rd. Don't do it, this year. We found that it was just tarred and chipped. Heavy tar caused us to wiggle in every curve and you had to stay in the groove or listen to the rocks pinging inside the fenders like gravel in a clothes dryer.

Also, it took over an hour to clean the tar off the bike...everywhere, even on top of the gas tank.

Otherwise, great riding. I recommend a night ride to Mt. Rushmore. Avoid the long lines, get cooler temps and except for the long intro...great viewing.

Ride safe

I couldn't believe it either. They get tons of $$$ from bikers and you would think they would promote the popular roads with better maintenance for the biker $$$. Stro1965, if you go (or anyone else for that matter) let me know how it is during the rally. Drop me a PM.

Im a local and the road is much better now then a couple weeks ago.

That is my after work loop.....When the day has been too much.... Nemo Rd to Vanocker canyon down to Sturgis and I-90 back home. The ride takes me about an hour and is a great way to decompress....

They road crews had chip sealed it about 3 or 4 weeks ago and the OP is right! It was a frickin MESS! Its still not great but it is definitely ridable. I went through there in the last few days and most of the looses gravel is packed down and the oil is soaked up pretty good.

As with ANY of the roads in the black hills there is always a chance of loose gravel and extreme caution should be used. I am so lucky to have the black hills as my back yard to play in but almost every year there is a few riders go down in the corners due to excessive speed and or loose gravel.

I wish everyone a great time while they are here for Sturgis and hopefully you all get some wear and tear on the sides of you tires!

No, the powers that be don't worry about such things. The real energy is behind figuring out how to stamp out ***** and flashing.

Weird - I just rode it on the 12th and it was in great shape. Me and my buds loved it. Including that funky diner with the ghost. Very cool.
