In Australia you can't lock on the pump, but one time a couple of months ago I went to fill up, started pumping at my normal pump and it must have had a fuel surge. Even though the nozzle was inserted properly the amount of fuel that blasted out hit the bottom of the tank and splashed up putting fuel all over the tank. Lucky there was a water hose next to me

What the hell??

I always fill up my tank so that gas covers the metal flange at the bottom of the neck. Ride it out, for christ's sake. . .

Hold the handle and monitor the gas level. Not everything in this world need to be done for us "automatically".

Simple solution to this problem. Ride to nearest dealer, had them the keys and title to the bike, then walk home and never ride again.

Soak a little out with paper towels, and be on your way. No big deal....

The gas these days does well to kill a bug so its not going to hurt anything unless you try to burn some off with a zippo lighter.

Same here. Fill til it just covers the flange, wait a second, and if it goes down, I put more in until it doesn't drop below the flange.

Never had any problem with gas coming out.

Wonder if the op's gas cap has a seal on it? Mine does, and as another noted, there is the vent hose. I suspect any extra snakes it's way up that hose, but I have never had any gas dripping.

Also, it takes time for 4-6 gallons to heat up on the road no matter what the temp is. The longer on the road, the warmer it gets, but you're also burning the stuff too!

If the gas cap was reinstalled properly, the bike parked in the sun, would not the overfill tube have drained the excess gas onto the ground. Of course this is only the case if you are using synthetic oil. Also, while riding down the road with no gas cap, you are involved in a wreck. The gas is going to pour out of the tank.

How long have you been riding, anyway?

I would NEVER lock the pump handle on a motorcycle!

Hold the no-spill nozzle boot back and WATCH what you're doing!
