You're right. It's not just the tool. It's all the stuff a cheapie can ruin.

I like to wear Wesco boots when using Snapon tools, really, it's just the way I roll.

I have some 40 yr old sockets made by Montgomery Ward that I still use regularly. As a young, well intentioned idgit I used an impact wrench on one of the MW thin wall deep sockets and shatterred it loosening the axle nut on my Tiger 500 - but the set is still otherwise complete. I think any 30+ yr old tool will be of better quality than a lot of what's available today.
Tools with high polish and deep chrome on top of cheaper alloys with cheaper heat treating do LOOK like the real thing. Cheap tools will always outsell Snap-On or other quality tool manufacturers because it costs more to make quality tools and when the difference isn't visually apparent most consumers will buy tools that look like the real thing.

I don't think those are genuine snap on tools. I have the big snap on box and buy tools, those don't look like anything on the tool truck. I have bought the special Harley & snap on branded screwdriver set off the truck and snap on is proud like Harley they post there name all over it. If any of those tools are snap on it will be stamped on it.

Went to the dealership to look at this set. They say it's made by snap on but it's made in taiwan. Not interested anymore. Thanks for the replies though. I'll stick with and add to my craftsman collection.

Snap-on used to be about the best, but that was because of there chrome plating (tough as nails) and there replacement warranty. for the last 20 years in the Navy when ever we worked on gas turbines the only tool we could use was snap-on because of the quality of there chrome plating.

I used to own lots of snap on, now the only thing I own is a drift punch set I got as a gift, I wouldn't waist my hard earned money on them personally. craftsman, Grey, etc.. all now offer replacement guarantees and are just as good.

Link to set. I knew Snap on was way more expensive. Now I'm thinking that set isn't made by snap on. In either case, it's made in Taiwan and I've worked hard in recent years to keep my garage american (Ford, Jeep, Harley Davidson, Craftsman).

I have many snap-on tools but they date back to the early 70's, and back then they were made in the US (I believe) but I have heard that today much of what Snap-on offers is not.
