OK, I bought one of these. It's part number 14900033. It was a great incentive for my wife to work on her new bike with me. It has the common tools that we would use to do many things to it. They all have script Harley Davidson on them and its a well put together package. It's also very big. Inside, there's a lifetime warranty slip in it and says they are HD/Snap on tools. Even the pliers have the bar and shield logo. I looked at the snap on site and they look like snap on to me, perhaps the blue point. Regardless, I'm admittedly an HD ***** and I'm diggin the set. We will definitely use it. Good quality, good warranty, good case and pretty complete. Got it from LSHD with free shipping, so I'm also satisfied with the price. I've spent more money on my scoot for lesser value - but I'm sure YMMV.
Thanks to Scaredofrain for the Bahco history and tip. I'll keep my eye out for that mark. Meanwhile I have Craftsman. If we win the lottery, I'd love to have a full-on SnapOn collection to leave to some deserving descendant.
I have a set of SanpOn tools on the bike. They are not some HD branded stuff I got them of the truck. I can't think of few things I would rather not do than break a socket or strip a POS Chinese ratchet 50 miles from the next West Texas Map Dot Town and 100 miles from the next town you can buy a tool in. For me that makes it worth it.
Now at home I have Craftsman and a bunch of others acquired over the years because in the garage it can wait until I replace something.
All the professional mechanics I know as well as people who like to do their own work have high quality tools.
I found after they had been in the field for a few years and got over the Snap on truck showing up with lines of credit, many ended up buying the brand of tool that worked best for what they were doing.
I liked their ratchets but hated their big wrenchs, to narrow and hard on the hands, for larger sizes I have older craftsman that are thin walled and way more comfortable to use.
Have some Mac stuff that works well too.
imho there are other brands as good but cheaper.
Maybe not as shiny though
I turned more wrenches longer than most ( not all ) of the members on this forum ... I'm 63 years old and made my living working in the automotive field, owned my own business ... While there are many brands to choose from and all ( at least most ) offer a lifetime warranty ... not one of the manufacturers offer a warranty on "broken knuckles" ... Snap On is one of the top quality manufacturers in the tool market ... However, I don't think I'd pay $250.00 for a tool set for my scooter ... Remember that professionals use their tools day in and day out ... the tool set in the bottom of the saddle bag will probably get used ( even opened ) not more than a few times during the life of the average scooter ... just my. 2 cents worth.
Anyone have a list of what tools are included in the kit?
here you go mark - it's from the HD website. its not a bahco set - it clearly has all the tool characteristics of a snap on set, although i will admit that the case looks similar to bahco.
This premium Harley-DavidsonŽ branded tool kit features all the tools you need for common maintenance on your motorcycle. The heavy-duty tools are conveniently secured in a hinged carrying case, and lock in place for simple organization. Tools feature large, easy-to-read size indicators, and are stamped with the classic Harley-DavidsonŽ script. Lifetime Warranty. 64-Piece Kit Includes: 1 - Quick-Release Ratchet (3/8" Drive); 1- 3" Extension (3/8" Drive); 1 - 6" Extension (3/8" Drive); 1 - Universal Joint (3/8" Drive); 11 - SAE Deep Sockets 3/8"-1" (3/8" Drive); 8 - Metric Deep Sockets 10 mm - 17mm (3/8" Drive); 1 - Spark Plug Socket 5/8" (3/8" Drive); 6 - Hex Sockets 1/8"-3/8" (3/8" Drive); 6 - TorxŽ Sockets T25-T50 (3/8" Drive); 8 - Spinner Handle (1/4" Drive) with Adaptor and 6 Bits (Slotted, Phillips, TorxŽ); 9 - SAE Combination Wrenches 1/4"-3/4"; 8 - Metric Combination Wrenches 8mm-17mm; 1 - Diagonal Pliers 7"; 1 - Slip Joint Pliers 8"; 1 - Needle Nose Pliers 8".
I dont wast my money on cheap tools...been there, done that. Everything i buy is good quality stuff, regardless what it is. But with snap on, i make a exception. Cant quite get over the prices, especially since some of there tools are now made in china. I look for any brand that has lifetime warranty, like sears or canadian tire's top line tools, that is on sale. Unless it's a HD specialty tool, I'm not buying tools from HD either.
