Default Biker down, biker down! (somewhat of a vent)

Greetings everyone. I recognize that I'm but a newbie on these here forums, but I wanted to take this moment to share with each of you a situation that took place a few weeks back. If nothing else, I hope it sends home the message that bikers should ALWAYS help a fellow biker in need. Here goes:

I was returning home from a business trip in Houston, tooling down the highway in my vehicle (not scoot), enjoying the drive. As I was heading west on the highway, I noticed a motorcycle coming east in my direction on the opposite side of the highway. At that point, it was too far away to tell exactly what type of bike it was. As I'm sure most all of us do, I made it a point to keep my eye on the bike just to check it out as it approached. Well, the guy didn't make it that far.

As we were heading essentially toward one another (opposite lanes of course), the biker slowed down to turn right onto a country road off the highway. This was some 300 yards or so away from me at the time. Well, the guy took a spill. As he attempted to negotiate the turn, his bike simply went out from under him causing him to take a tumble. I saw the whole thing take place. Bear in mind I'm on the opposite side of a 6 lane highway with a median in the middle as this is taking place. I couldn't believe I just saw the guy take a spill.

Here's what pissed me off! There were cars whizzing by him left and right. What pissed me off even further is that there were even a couple of bikes that passed him by as well. No one, I repeat, no one stopped to render aid!!! It was around another couple hundred yards or more before I could manage to make a u-turn and double back. I managed to get to where he was (he was still on the ground more shaken up than anything else) and his bike was some 10 feet or so away. I took some water and towels that I had in my vehicle and helped the guy. Aside from a few scatches and what not, he was relatively okay. He said that as he was making the turn that he hit a soft spot on the gravel road and that's what caused him to go down. All told, both he and his scoot were okay given the situation.

Long winded I know. But folks, if you see a fellow biker (or anyone for that matter) in need on the road - STOP AND HELP THE GUY OUT! For some day, that could very well be YOU! Sorry for the vent, but it really pissed me off that nobody stopped to help this guy - especially the two bikers that I'm pretty damn sure saw him; as he was just on the side of the highway!!!!

Thanks for sharing Tx.To think a biker sees another biker go down & just ride by him,is NO biker in my eyes.I hope those two never run into a similar situation & their on the wrong end.
You did good Tx,,,,so yea I consider you a biker

I'm glad you were around, otherwise the poor guy would have had no help. A good law in Italy is that the first car upon an accident must stop and render assistance, otherwise they go to jail. It's a shame there isn't a law like that here in the US. But then again, we are a litigious society and that probably keepsthis type of law from being inacted. So, we all need to watch out for each other!

Good job! I hope I never witness someone go down (I haven't yet), but I know I would not just drive by. I don't know how ANYONE could just drive on past, even in a cage, but for bikes to pass him, well, that is just inexcusable!

Sounds like a good law Tail11. I can't believe the bikers didn't stop. I would have been breakin' my neck to help!
