If you are getting less than 10K on a rear tire...its because of the way you ride, and the tire pressure.

I regularly get 18K+ on a rear tire, both Stock and elite III's I get 28-32K on a front.

These averages are over the past 10 years, on 3 different bikes, so I can say that its not the bike...its the rider.

I have NEVER had to change a rear tire at under 18K

I am currently on the 2 eliteIII on the rear, and as slong as I keep getting the milage, I will stay with them, until something better comes along, and is proven by regular riders, and not simply what the company says you should get.

Big difference in the tires going on 2009 & later VS 2008 & older...The newer ones seem to be built a lot differently like the American Elites and the D407/408... I am pretty sure that is why Michelin upgraded the Commander to the 2nd generation. I was thinking of getting a car tire to try but if the Commander II lives up to it's reputation on my bike i will keep running it... It will be here today but i still have plenty left on my regular Commander...

I think that is true to a point.... I am pretty sure if you put a ME880. Night Dragon or a Avon on your bike you would see the decrease in mileage...If you are comparing just the EIII then i got 11000 miles and my lightweight buddy got 19000 miles so it is infact the way you ride and weight...lot's of variables...
Ride safe.

I got mine in today and this is a really nice looking tire... Looks like it will last longer than the EIII just looking at it...

Update: I replaced my rear tire Thursday with another stock Dunlop. I got 14,282 miles out of this one. Pretty standard for me.

Yeah, I’m not sure it matters how easy you take it on an 880 – I rode my last one pretty gingerly and still managed to run through it in less than 9 months. Granted, I ride my bike and it doesn’t just sit in the garage as an investment.

I’ve been hard on it since my last trip I will confess. No burnouts though or anything like that….

i just wanna know wtf is going on with these tire mfgs? you read great reviews on the american elites. want a set? not happening if you have an 18'' front wheel. how about the commander IIs? nope, no 18 there either. seems the best you can hope for is to either stay with stock, or run an elite 3 on the front and an american elite on the rear.....

I am pretty settled on staying stock now due to tire choice, was thinking of 18's but rethinking that now.

Riding a 2010 Fat Boy Lo the stock Dunlap rear never made it over 5500 miles and was well into the wear bars. No burnouts but i do ride the corners a touch aggressive. I now have 5986 miles on the set of commander II front and rear including 2400 miles riding in Kentucky Tennessee north Carolina running really hard in the hardest roads i could find for twisty hilly runs. The rear and front are both just slightly over what I would consider half way to the wear bars from my tread depth measurments!!!! Handling is much better than the stock 407 and 408f. For rain handling we hit a hard downpour on 74 in N.C. I hit a sweeper doing 60 to find 3 creaks of runoff in the corner, I knew we were going down!!! WOW tires never slipped and we rode through it like it was nothing!!!! We are always riding two up with saddle bags loaded so I can say for a fact I will be sticking with these Commander II tires!!!
