Default Is this quote from my dealer too high?

Hello and thanks in advance for your time and expertise,

I am looking at customizing my Fatboy Lo with a Stage 1 upgrade. I researched the components I wanted to add and requested a Quote from my local dealer. Here is the outcome:

Vance and Hines Big Radius Exhaust, 2-into-2 = $799.95 Part#1800-0746
Labor to install exhaust = $170.00(2 hours)

Screamin’ Eagle Heavy Breather Air Cleaner Kit = $299.95 Part#29098-09
Labor to install heavy breather = $85.00(1 hour)

Screamin Eagle Pro Super Tuner = $459.95 Part#32109-08B
Dynamometer the Motorcycle = $280.00 (the super tuner is used to interface the laptop to the bike while dynoing the bike)

Kuryakyn Lighted Curved Laydown License Plate Frame - $69.95
Labor to Install license plate frame = $85.00 (1 hour)

Total which includes tax and shop supplies - $2437.25

The quote seems rough (read as too high). They are killing me on the license plate frame. But the other stuff seems pricey. I also do not have the technical knowledge to understand why you have to purchase the Super Tuner AND pay 280 for the Dynamometer work. Can anyone help me out?

First go online and buy all those parts at 20% off. That should save you about 300. right there. For the hd parts go to New castle hd online and there parts are always 20% off. They even have the vance pipes for 700.00. I would call around to your local dealers and see who will give the best install price.

If you want to save money - stay away from the dealer, they are going to charge $85 per hour, that is their price.

You can buy the stuff yourself and instsall it, its not rocket science, just nuts and bolts.

Get some tools roll up your slieves and get busy, have some buds over for a beer if you are totally clueless.

I got everything you got except I got V&H BSL's and no plate frame. My cost was $1,600.00. I felt ripped off.

WAY TOO MUCH MONEY!

Order all your parts online. Surdyke is also a good source for all things Harley at good discounts.

Once you get all your stuff, read some of the installation instructions. You might be surprised to find that some of the stuff is pretty easy to do and you could do it yourself.

Call multiple dealerships and ask for a quote for the same work. Challenge them to earn your business by giving you a better deal.

Research and read up before you commit to stuff like this. You'll be surprised how much you can save money doing upgrades to your Harley. I have become a sort of master at it. I have done exhaust, air cleaner, tuner, handle bars and risers, windshield, seat, front and rear fenders, passing lamps and horn, saddle bags, touring pillion, sissy bar with backrest, passenger floorboards, and grips for about the same amount (if not less) than you are being quoted just for exhaust and air cleaner upgrade.

Dealer = *** raping.

Buy all your big parts online…way cheaper. An Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner can be bought for less than half of the quoted price for that SE Air cleaner.

Also, having your bike dyno'ed for a basic stage I is overkill. Buy a Powercommander from Jaime at Fuel Moto, and you'll get a great map for your setup.

Could save a bunch and do most of that work yourself and get the parts elsewhere
All but the dyno is a matter of a few bolts

You don't have to Dyno the bike after the upgrades but if they know what they're doing they can tune your scoot to run the best it will ever run.

The price looks about right for that. Couple of places here do it, one a dealer the other guy an indy and they both charge similar numbers.

Good luck.
