Default Custom-painted riding gear.....

Hey, looking for input here........

Last night when we went to the Harley place, the clerk who was ringing up my Harley shirt complimented me on the leather jacket I was wearing...she liked the art on the back of it and asked who did it. I told her I painted it myself, and that I did my helmet and gloves too.
She suggested I leave a business card with her because she gets asked a lot by customers about where to get hand-painted custom jackets and helmets done. That's when it occurred to me,...I've gotten lots of compliments on my jacket and helmet, so maybe I should make use of that talent to help us make extra income.
SO....I'm thinking I might try to do some custom gear-painting. Maybe I can even enlist the help of my hubby Anubisss who is an actual fine-artist and painter extraordinaire...it could be fun to do something like this together, and, HIS work would look AWESOME on jackets and helmets too. I'm not sure if that's even something he's all that interested in, because we haven't really discussed it, but, it's a thought.

ANYWAY,...not trying to be out-of-line, but I'm posting pics here of the jacket, helmet and gloves here, because I want to know if you guys think it's something you or people you know would be interested in.
Also, I'm wanting to know if there is a more appropriate place on the forum for us to post this kind of thing.
All input welcome.
Here's the pics.................

I think it looks real good ScooterGrrl. You could probably make a good side income with it in your spare time. Don't give your secrets away, but tell us a little about the process.

I believe that with the artistic talent that you and your husband have, a part time business would do well - of course the price and amount of time needed to perform the work would play a big part in it as well.

Hey take it where you can get it. It would be a good side income if you enjoy it.

You can come up with some blue rose designs for me I'll hand out business cards for it!

I used to do cloth painting, but haven't for years. I've had a few people ask me to do murals in thier homes (I do them in mine causethey are fun), but I'm slow at it and people are impatient so I decided not too. I'm really just an adequate painter anyway....It would take away my fun...

I had noticed your jacket in previous posts with the new sporty... I had no idea that you had painted that thing yourself.

That's pretty sweet... Good luck with it!

One thing to think about is how serious you want to do it and how much time you are willing to invest. If you keep it at a "hobby" level and limit the amount of time spent then it is fun to do. I find that my custom leather work is more fun when I do it in my time and on my time schedule...which is often late at night. When you deliberately take on work then you have a time line and a customer with money who is constantly in the back of your mind. For me that puts unnecessary pressure on me and then I'm unhappy with the results.
Most of the stuff I make I give away at our HOG monthly meetings in the 50/50 raffles or at our parties, runs, etc. I've had several offers of financial backing to make my leather map cases, etc. but have decided it's not worth the money made over the fun of making one of a kind items that the receiver appreciates.

Oh, I guess I should learn how to do flames and stuff since I am a fine artist. I could prolly make a killin here in So Cal. I am much more of an abstract painter, but it is time to focus on some more realistic drawings I guess. I can REALLY use the income, so I am ready to roll here.
