Loudest slash cuts? Samson? Who runs baffless and why?
I was wondering who runs baffless and why?
I have a 2012 fatboy with rush slipons. The bike sounds good but the idle and low rpm sound is way too quiet. I want an extremly loud idle with a loud low rpm 1800-2200ish for in city letting caggers know that i'm comming.
I don't want to lose power so I guess baffless is out. I would also prefer to not need a power commander. I don't want to need hearing protection but need that louder idle and low rpm noise. The top end of my slip ons in perfect with the sound.
Who makes the loudest slash cuts? Would like one where the baffles can be changed and removed easily. Was looking at Samsons.
I have full bore slash cut slipons and had the wrap on the baffles removed. They are loud at idle now. Maybe too loud at higher RPM's though. Not sure I would do it again.
Baffles add needed back pressure, add lowend torque and make the bike run smoother. You can add short baffles and this will make the pipes louder than the stock ones.
You can't have one without the other. If it's loud at idle, it'll be even louder under power.
If you want to know what straight pipes sound like check out some 'cholo' style bikes. Many of them run straight pipes and extended fish-tails for 'the look' but have no bottom end power and usually a bunch of decel pop (which seems to be preferred). And they make LOTS of noise.

you will lose power at low RPM running open pipes. These are for racing when the motor is running at high RPMS all the time. Your engine will run better with the baffles in.
Also - straight pipes are illegal in most states that I know of.
why are you looking to degrade performance for sound?
Louder also means larger or no baffles so you will be running leaner and hotter without a Power commander or other fuel management system. But hey it's your bike do what you want.
Doesn't Rush make different size baffles depending on how much sound you want? If you already have their loudest ones, try Big City Thunder for the best sounding baffles I've heard.
