Is anybody going to the Open House at the factory in York this year? Was wondering if it is worth going? Not that far of a ride for me but don't want to waste my time if it's not worth it.
If you go try to go on Thursday. They work a 10 hour four day work week so on Thursdays you can see actual production. I was there last week one the steel toed to war and they did say there is a rumor that production might also be on Friday of that week. Just a lot nicer going through the plant if they are actually working.
I was at the Open House at the Kansas City Plant last weekend. I think that was the third one or so that I've been to in about 10 years. It was very light in attendance, maybe a few hundred or so. Kinda nice that there was no waiting for any demo rides or even the factory tour. No live band any more, only a few vendors selling food and clothing. I remember back in the early 2000's, one of the first times they held open house, they opened with singing the nation anthem, there was a fly over by fighter jets from Knobnoster Air Force Base, and you had to wait in lines for 30 minutes to do anything. Nothing like that anymore.
It still a fun day, but the lack of attendance has to be a concern.
I went many moons ago. 20 years ago I wanna say? It was huuuuuge!!! I haven't tried real hard to go back, but when I have it's always eluded me. I have been on the factory tour over a dozen times though. As well as the factory tour a bunch b4 they moved it out.
One really good reason to attend the Open House WAS that it was the only time you could get a tour through the Softail assembly line and the CVO assembly line. Recently the started doing them all on the same line though, so that reason is gone.
I do plan to attend this year. Gonna take Thursday off, head up with a local HOG chapter. Hope it is a blast.
