Not many people know, or follow, other parts of the code.
I.E.,
A flag may not be flown between sundown and sunup, unless it is illuminated during those hours.
I have a neighbor who has had a flag on her fence post for as long as I've lived here. It is not illuminated, but it is always kept neat and clean and is replaced frequently. I have no problems with the lack of night lighting.
When displayed, the blue field must always be in the upper left corner as viewed by the intended audience. (I've actually seen several occasions of an improperly displayed flag in government press releases on TV. )
The whole point of the code is not to force people to do something, but to have a guide for what the right way is, so everybody doesn't have to make up their own rules.

Most people have a life. And don't give a crap about a flag code. Don't burn one.To hell with the rest of it.
The implication here is that those that care whether our flag is treated in a respectful manner don't have a life or need to get a life. In view of the fact that many people made the ultimate sacrifice for the flag and what it stands for I am sure that many people would take exception to this. It's one thing when someone is unaware that there is a flag code and is just trying to be patriotic. It's quite another though to imply that those that do know and care need to get a life because it isn't important. Myself and many others served so that you can treat the flag in any manner you wish (many giving their lives for it) however it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt us to see someone treat it in a disrespectful manner. To me burning the flag is no different than flying the flag improperly when it is done with the intention of being disrespectful. Doing so shows a lack of respect for me, my son, my dad, my grandfather, the half a dozen heroes whose funerals I attended and held a flag for over the last 6 weeks, and every other person that served for our great country.
