Just bought my Trike 7 weeks ago. We were coming home from Biketoberfest in Daytona and hit some unavoidable road debris (palm frond) that rolled under the back tire and smashed into the back of the trike. The fiberglass underwall of the bike splintered/split by the right back exhaust.
We were locked into our lane position and doing 65 on the highway so there was not really a way to avoid it, but I was surprised that something on the road would pop up and smash the body of my new bike (I had never had this happen in a car, for example). I am pretty bummed about it. The trike is new and we just crossed over 1500 miles. It is ridable but just sucks. I don't imagine it will be covered in the warranty. Any ideas?
This sucks and I know that the forums have a great deal of insight and experience. Help me out if you can.
"I don't imagine it will be covered in the warranty."
Can't see why it would be covered under the HD warranty. How about checking with your insurance Co.?
Debris in the road is covered under your Insurance policy provided it was properly reported. No different then running over anything else that causes body damage. However, only you can decide if the resulting deductible and likely future insurance premium increase works for you in this case or not? I am not an insurance guy but I would call your agent and see if this would be considered collision or comprehensive on your policy? On mine, hitting a deer is comprehensive, but hitting a trash can that rolls out of the back of a truck on the interstate is considered collision...Go Figure?
Yeah, I understand the insurance angle. I doubt the damage will be much more than the deductible but guess I could get a repair estimate. I just wondered if anyone else took this kind of body damage off of road debris? Is there any way to repair fiberglass?

Fiberglas is definitely repairable. Check any shop that works on Vettes or given that you are in Tampa. Check out a Marina. Boat Detailers !
