I took my wife on an Electraglide a few years ago, and in a few miles I knew it was not the bike for me. When we got off, my wife said, you kind of loose the motorcycle feel on that thing. I have to agree, I love my 99 carbed EVO powered Softail Custom. Just the right amount of vibes to let you know what the motor is doing with the solid mounted motor and no counterbalance.
Baggers are great for some things, but for me take the fun out of riding. For some, comfort is everything, for others it is the fun of the ride. I think that is where the Softails come in. We may be tired after a 300 mile ride, but we will be grinning from ear to ear. I'm sure you younger guys can do way better than 300 miles, but I am 72 years old now, and 300 miles is a pretty good ride for me.
I took my wife on an Electraglide a few years ago, and in a few miles I knew it was not the bike for me.
Rented one of the new 2012 baggers with the 103. It was fun, just not as fun. The wife said "why do they call these geezer glides, they are harder than hell to get on and off of them".
Sold my SG and bought another Shovel and a Deluxe. Great choice in my mind, just didn't enjoy the SG like I thought I would. Only thing I miss is the cruise!
Sold the Ultra Classic Electra Glide today. Now comes the anticipation of the new bike - 2013 Fatboy Lo in Black Denim with V&H 2 black Big Radius 2 into 2 pipes, heavy breather air intake, removable windscreen, and sissy bar with backrest. Might get some removable bags too. Plan to pick it up in the spring. Can't wait.
I went from a 88 super Glide t0 a 96 Fatboy to a 03 Road King Custom to a 2011 Lo I missed my softail all the time I had the King. Don't get me wrong the ride was great but I just liked the softail better. At times I miss the Super Glide as it seemed to have a bit more soul to it.
I recently sold my Road Glide. I too, am going to get a fat boy or deluxe. Less is more... Back to basics, etc. Blah, blah, blah
I just did the opposite. Sold my 2010 deluxe which I loved and bought a new, 2012 FLTRX RG Custom, which I'm real happy with. Man, I wish I could afford to have both!
