Same whine different day. Are my Harley's perfect? No. When I work on them thanks to the real geniuses out there. I add new plates, bearings, gears, wielded cranks, different valves and guides. Whatever it takes to make a motor bullet proof as much as dollars and smart guys offer ideas. If I bitch it is because I expected this bullet proof engine at a cheaper price and forgot that a business is business. I bought my Harley's fully expecting to have to work on them sooner and later. I love both of my present Harley's. I am thankful to be able to afford them and make them the bike I wanted. I am also thankful for the 2000 mile a year dumbasses that fear their rides but buy them anyway. They help support the market that keeps all my good parts available, mechanic friends working, and Harley manufacturing motorcycles.
Ok, here is what I remember from the 70's. those who wanted to ride a Harley rode a metric because we could not afford a Harley. Today you can buy any brand at close pricing so you can choose which brand suits you. I know I would have had a Harley cept for the initial cost, but we rode while dreaming of the day when...
So did the moco buy cheaper parts in order to price competitively, Yes I for one think so. Moco readily has the bolt in parts to replace the cheap parts. add on improvements have pre drilled and tapped holes.
Wrong answer padiwan , the moco is cutting corners on parts and cheaper made sub assemblies for the assembly line to increase their already high profit margin and to reduce inhouse manpower & subcontractors . Has nothing to do with competing with other brands cause they have a locked in market and know it .
Till new buyers say enough and walk away instead throwing down $20K plus on these things HD will continue business as usual . Bubble is already popping look at the number of dealerships closing around the country the last 3 years .
Cotton pick-en puter just ate 20 minutes of my answer to this....
MFSoAB and more..
Short version...
I've never had a minute of problem Ur talking about with our 07 Hertiage.ine...
I don't expect everything I buy that has wheels and a motor to be 100% trouble Free0. BUT our 07 has been,,Cept the PinHole in the gas line.
I do agree the I've read in here about the new bikes that have Spokes are having issues and the reg';s are also having problems..
Still working at GM all my life I know that sometimes new providers will LIE about how good and great they can and will provide a new product that meets our needs just wont/don't work out.....
They can bring in 100 pieces that works fine,, BUT they can't provide the same quality day in day out.....
Bottom line is Big business BOYs Always look for the Cheap way out (known as Bottom dollar)
So the Big Boys can get their Big wages and Bonuses and Tax breaks like most all Republicans think. While sticking to the workers..

who ever thought of putting the cat. converter in the head pipe
They use to put it in the front end of the muffler, then all you had to do was change the mufflers to get ride of it.
But I guess that wouldn't pass California smog tests, so blame the liberals in California.
wheel bearings
is the vendor with the lowest bid, usually the main cause for trouble in this country
fairing brackets that crack
This I do not understand why they don't make them better.
It's past being cheap and stupid.
voltage regs that don't last a week
That's again a vendor issue
comp.sprockets that don't last,cranks that twist,bad bearings in trans
This again I do not understand why they don't make them better.
It's past being cheap and stupid. It's bad business.
As a lifelong Quality professional, I can tell you - you NEVER blame your vendor when answering your customer. YOUR name is on that tank, not the low-bid vendor. It is your responsibility to assure the quality of the parts that go into your product. Saying "the vendor gave me bad parts" is a pure cop-out. You need to qualify your vendors. You need to assure that they supply products that meet your standards. You need to oversee their production. You need to assure that they don't change things when you aren't looking. You need to inspect and test what they give you.

In the auto industry your right but Harley is beast on it's own pedestal , when they where trying to cut labor costs the quality control peeps is where it happened . The moco will keep shoveling them out the door with well known and documented problems because the public is still buying them as fast they can can . Till people are willing to say enough and spend they money elsewhere it will continue business as usual , why do you think the moco markets the lifestyle so hard ?
The bikes secondary to the game they are playing it's just the newb's ticket into fantasy land .......................
