I'd have to disagree. I was specifically paying attention to the dirt, which is why I was surprised the tire kicked out. I knew that putting my foot down like that wasn't a good idea. Reflex kicked in and it went down to the ground without me even realizing it.

Hope your foot feels better soon, glad it wasn't worse. I find the first riding in the spring, after the ice and snow are off the roads is one of the most dangerous times around here (I'm in Mass too). That, and the fall when there are wet leaves on the road.

Youch!! Can you imagine what would your foot would have been like if you'd been wearing sandals?!

And that settles it - I'm sweeping the damp leaves out of the driveway to my block of flats when I get home tonight.

I was riding my KZ1000 in western CO in 1977. Accelerated from a stop across median, turning left onto a divided highway, and began to lose the rear end on some pea gravel. Reflex was to kick the bike up with my left foot, which worked! Then I was riding down the highway, wondering who was driving...

That's the type of incident that always leaves me thinking "Yes this is a heavy bike and I need to respect that fact a little more". Happens sometimes! Good that you didn't get all jacked up.
