Default Trying to get to Anchorage AK in March

So I have a bit of shipping/traveling issue for my Sportster... I need to get to Anchorage, Alaska, in early-mid March from L.A.

So a couple questions for anyone who might know:

1. Is it technically possible to ride a Sportster to Anchorage in the middle of March. Obviously it would be a long and very cold ride... But would road conditions even allow me to try, and do so safely?

2. If not, does anyone know of a cheap way to ship from literally anywhere on the west coast to Anchorage at that time of year? I'm game for riding all the way to Vancouver if that might save on shipping.

Trying to get there, and need to do so on a budget. Any help would be appreciated... Open to any suggestions or ideas on how to do this. Since I'll be riding to Kansas during the summertime riding there in march is not a must.

I don't think it would be wise to make the ride in March. The mountains and passes will still have snow and ice.

Ride to Washington and get on the Alaska Marine Highway. Here is the link: http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/inde...FYl7QgodV2cARg

It also kind of depends on the winter we have up here. right now, there is very little snow. But it's not impossible for Anchorage to get hammered with snow in the February-March window. If you plan on riding outside of Anchorage into mountains or other areas, a bike probably wouldn't be safe. Earlier this year in April, while driving to Girdwood (40 miles south of Anchorage) there were icy spots on the road and a small truck got crushed by falling ice.

I moved from Anchorage back to the lower 48 not long ago and I would not recommend making that run. It is pretty cheap to ship your bike through the dealership or a local shipping company from Seattle to Anchorage.

There is a ferry that goes to AK either from Seattle WA or Vancouver BC. Not sure or cost of schedules but googling WA department of Transportation would probably answer the questions.

Does the marine highway go all the way to anchorage?

Could anyone point me to a shipping company out of Seattle who does that route?

I'm trying to ride my way around the world, so I'm really feeling like Alaska is a must, but I'm certainly doing this at a bad time of the year. :/

you can try a descriptive Uship add stating it isn't a single load item and figure up your expenses in driving it and offer to pay that plus some .If the add is there long enough someone will be able to add it to a partial shipment making his day as well as yours

Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE) out of the Tacoma area does a large amount of shipping to Alaska and they have been in business for a long time.

I did the Al-Can in June and encountered freezing rain and snow. I wouldn't advise riding it in March.
