Default Why get a nickle now instead of a quarter later?

Am I missing something? I see so many people selling off their stock parts after they get new goodies for their bikes. I am keeping everything that I take off because I am not about to loose money on the $9000 of extras on the bike and only get $2000 more than a stock bike. I will put my bike back to stock when I sell it, or as close to it as I can. I will be dammed if I am going to sell my stock headlight for $40 after putting in the daymaker and having some foolio offer me $17K on a bike that books at $15k with $9k worth of extras.

Am I alone here or am I over thinking this?

well shoot, you got me thinkin of whether or not I should keep all my stock parts now too. I thought it was a bit of a plus to see when you buy a used bike privately to see the seller offer all the stock parts with it that he has replaces or upgraded.

I keep all my stock parts too. You won't get much out of it anyway, with a few exceptions.
Unless you bored the cylinders or crankcase out in which case it will never get back to stock again..

Same reason I've kept mine.

I sell all of mine because I'm not a hoarder, I'm never getting rid of my current bike, and I love that parts of my originial bike are now all over the US and travleing down different roads

That's fine if you plan on selling your bike. I'll ride mine into the ground.

Default The Way I Figure It

I took off the stock bars on my RK and put the Heritage style bars on. Sold the bars on the cheap because there's no way I'll change them back. Helped offset the cost af the Heritage style bars by about 1/3rd. Put a set of American Custom slipons on and sold the originals back to AC. This brought the cost of the mufflers WAY down. I bought a Sundowner and helped offset the cost by selling the original seat. I sold the stock seat for about a little less than what a used Sundowner would cost. Makes no sense to keep the original. (money back right away) As for the bigger ticket bolt on items (tourpak and such), when the time comes I'll remove them and reuse or sell.

As far as for anyone who has done any major suspension and / or engine mods, these would require substantial re-engineering to return the bike back to "stock".

If you built your scooter from the ground up, that pile of left over stock parts could be avoided. Just a thought.
