Anyone in the market for a battery maintainer/charger should also research the NOCO Genius line. I am not affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer.
I bought the 3.5 amp model first for my general charging duties. (My Harley and other bikes, diesel pickup truck, motorhome, dune buggy and personal watercraft.)
I have one I bought from Walmart probably 15 years ago with a champion label on it. Still works as good as new. been through 3 bikes and 1 truck so far.
I've got a few Battery Tender Jr's and they do the job of maintaining your battery without any hassle at all. I had a bike on a Jr for 13 years with the same battery and when I sold the bike, the guy that bought it had the battery load tested and it was still good. Two riding seasons later, he still has the same battery in the bike. My bikes and my lawn tractor are on the tender whenever not in use. My tractor sits all winter long and starts trouble free each and every spring. Same for the bikes.
the cheep ones from Wally World, ($20 +-) work fine except 1 bad feature -
If your leave the terminals on the battery and unplug the 110 outlet plug - it WILL discharge your battery
more expensive brand names ones will not do a discharge ...
That is an interesting statement and I have always pondered it. Since I have that one and Harley's I checked on that. Both instructions manuals say disconnect it from battery when unplugged, so I took it a step further.
I have them plugged in a on/off surge protector so when I take bike off I can just flip the switch to kill the flashing light on the Harley one. However I pulled both and took my volt/resistance meter and hooked it to the 12V plug coming out of the charger. It shows no resistance. So i figured maybe it needed 12Volt back thru to trick circuits to come on, so I hooked it back up to battery thru the amps draw of my meter. Showed no amps load what so ever on either one. So I really do not believe your statement is correct, at least on the Walmart one I have or Harley's charger. However manual DOES says disconnect it. But I believe if 120 power went off it should not pull battery down.

Close buddy works in parts at a big multi brand dealership and gets me a nice discount. When I was in the market for a battery tender he said he already had this pulled for me and I had no other options that he would sell to me. Been very happy with it on my bike, tractor, and vette.
