Vest no longer required during daylight, but after dark reflective Outerwear is. It doesn't have to be orange anymore though, just reflective.

+1 with Squid Head. I had to take my MSF course at Fairchild AFB in Spokane and they didn't require a reflective vest. Let me right on and that was before the DOD policy change a few months ago, I did that in 2008. Our Navy base use to be **** about reflective gear night or day here in WA back in the day, but now they are letting people ride with black jackets, even black suits. The new instruction says reflective gear is highly recommended (not required). There is no reflective requirement for riding on base at night, but it's up to the base commander too. I would get a petition to have your base CO update the base policy. If I'm coming on base at night I'll have it with me just in case. But I also carry the instruction. Two years back in this area and I haven't been harassed about anything whether I'm in my HD jacket or digitals.
Air force says bright colors during the day, reflective material at night. I wish they would just take it away, I hate wearing a reflective vest. I've had more people pull in front of me with the damn thing on than I ever did when I was back home.
Fort Bragg, NC got rid of the the post decal stickers and earlier this year got rid of reflective material requirements. Got hasseled a few times until I pulled out the letter from USASOC stating that reflective material requirement was no longer required. What was explained to me was that the reflective material was the causing cagers to look at the reflective material and causing accidents because "you go where you look". Not sure how much of that is true...but I'm just glad that I don't need a decal or reflective material anymore. Hope this eventually trickles down to all military posts.
Holy crap! I'm going cross-eyed with the different rules at each installation.
The basic DoD policy gets amended by every base commander. We have the Navy Region Southwest policy that is based on DoD's, and that gets chopped by the Naval Base Point Loma folks, and then there's additional policy for my command. They can't take anything away from the higher instruction, but they can add pretty much whatever they want to it.
I'll post a new thread with the whole vest/no-vest policy once I go back into the office and pull up the instruction.
DOD removed the requirement for base stickers five years ago. USAF followed immediately and the Army finally followed a year ago. Am not familiar with USN or USMC sticker requirements.
A rather inane requirement with 100% I.D. check in progress.
Bright color no longer required...just reflective after dusk/before dawn. OPTESTED today...I wore my black leather jacket through the gate.
here at ft polk, that wouldn't be a valid optest. the gate guards have been instructed to let you through, whether or not you meet the requirements, and let the mps deal with you once your on post.
something about it not being in their contract, not their job, etc.....
oh, our requirements:
long sleeve, bright during day, reflective at night
full fingered gloves
over the ankle boots

Here at the SUBBASE in Wa I was explained that they use the stickers to verify vehicles registration, insurance and all that. I argued with the lady what does it matter, you can cancel insurance whenever you want and they give you stickers to your EAOS. So you can't track people with their insurance or registration. She didn't have an answer for me after that. I think it's ridiculous to keep the stickers still. And that was probably what the pass and ID people have to say to use for an excuse.
