Question Snowmobile Trailer For Transporting Motorcycle

I didn't find any useful threads on it. I was wondering if others have used or still use a snowmobile trailer to haul their motorcycles? I have a 2 place (8.5X10) open snowmobile trailer that I bought new about a year ago that I've thought about using in the spring to haul. Getting it setup with a wheel chock, good strap locations etc. Though, the trailer to me would seem so high up & bouncy and what not I'd worry it would cause the ratchet straps to loosen or other issues. I sold my sled in November, but I still like using it to haul 2 ATV's for hunting, and other uses; otherwise I would have just sold it and looked for a better suited trailer. I really don't have the room for another trailer, nor do I have the money to spend on one. I also don't owe anything on this trailer, which I like.

Anyone see any major cons with using one? Mines a tilt, so that I would think would be nice?

TIA!

Use mine for it, don't use the tilt deck, keep a ramp with you. I got a few quick release chocks & welded on a couple of loops for straps. I just use motorcycle (dirtbike)straps.

Why a ramp? Seems like it would be pretty slick to roll on & off?

I would. Seemed like my old snowmachine trailer had a plywood floor. I would check where the bike sits if that is the case with yours. The bike is going to have a heavier footprint than your sled or 4 wheelers. May need a little beefing up where the tires sit if it's just over some 3/4 plywood floor--something to think about, but easily remedied if it's a concern. The tilt might provide a little thrill, but I would probably try it.

The look on peoples faces when we pulled into Myrtle Beach Bike week with 2 enclosed snowmobile trailers....

They work great.

Mine has a metal deck. I bolted 2 HF chocks to it and can haul my ramps using stake pockets down the sides. It works fine but I don't use it much for bikes.
The tilt works OK if I back it in a ditch and only load 1 bike. I have not tried it on level ground.

If the GVWR is okay and you can get 60% of the load weight ahead of the axle then it will work. Many snowmobile trailers have the axle centered in the length of the trailer which makes hauling a big bike difficult to keep the required amount ahead of the axle. The trailer will sway especially going down a hill. Not fun.

I've used mine for everything up to a touring BMW. I wouldn't use it for my Ultra though. Just too high off the ground to load it comfortably and with confidence.

A big bike is gonna slide like mad on a tilt deck if it's wood......
Do you have anything on the wood for traction????
Gotta make sure the wheel chock is far enough forward so that when you hit it, the weight of the bike "un tilts" the trailer, otherwise it's a two person job.....

I use my 2-place tilt for the dual sports. Even those can be tricky getting em up......

I use my enclosed trailer for the big bikes. Ramp rear door. Very nice......

hi i just converted my snowmobile trailer to haul my bikes i have the inline 3 place vnose with drive on/off ramps. 7x16' with the nose its over 20' i bought two lock n load wheel chocks and ran e-track along the edges, i had them running centered inline and that worked good. i just got back from my florida trip from michigan and they where tied down solid almost 2,600 miles and held good. i'm happy with the result
