i have a 2006 roadking with 94,000 miles, bought it in 2008 with 30,000 miles on it. 88" all stock except slip-on's. been a great bike and has run good. local shop asked if i had changed cam tensioners. i checked them and they are down to almost nothing left. local guy says while we are in there put in a cam to wake her up a bit. did a compression check pretty week @ 120psi. so im thinking a 95" kit with upgraded cam chain tensioners, adjustable push rods, freshen up the heads and a tuner. parts and labor about $3500. OR.. have dealer send my motor in for reman with 95" upgrade 1 year warrenty. probably $5500. what to do.
I don't know what comes with the 95 kit from the local shop ( crank bearings, etc?). If the bottom end will not be rebuilt I would not do it, too much new power to the old bottom end. If it does I'd go with the local guy if I had delt with him before.
I'd go with the $3500 option since the bike has that many miles on the chassis.
I agree with Old Sorrel. I would think a local rebuild would likely have higher standards then what I am reading about the new motors. Plus you can pick from a wider selection of cams.
thanks for the feedback. i was thinking the 95" harley kit. comes with pistons, cly, a 203 cam and high flow air cleaner. stage 2 kit. dosn't come with any lower end parts.

I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the bike in the future. I surely wouldn't put much money into it if you plan on trading/selling in a couple of years. Have you thought about just changing the tensioners and doing a top end refresh? That would be the cheapest route and just might go another 90K miles.

Whether you are selling or not.
Option 2 - new motor. But only if you're going to keep it.
