Default Slip-Ons

The other day i took a good look underneath the mufflers on my Heritage. From what I can see each muffler has a couple clamps and the muffler is bolted to the frame. Is that it? Seems simple enough to swap out the mufflers myself. Is there more to it than what i have already mentioned? I have read in some reviews where some folks say it took them a couple hours to swap out. What am i missing? Two hours?

If just the mufflers just one clamp each pipe and the bolts to the frame, 2 hours, maybe they had alot of beer breaks. Right to it no more than an hour.

You got it! Hardest part was taking the old mufflers off the pipe. Rock the muffler back and forth and you will slowly work it off.

Slip ons is about as easy as it gets. It's a easy no brainer and if someone needs 2 hours to do it, they must be doing it with their feet vs their hands.

It's a straight forward operation. However, if you're like me, one or both mufflers will be seized to the head pipe and be a bitch to get off even after loosening the clamps all the way. A rubber mallet, and penetrating oil, is your friend.

A little WD40 will be your friend to help loosen the original pipes, yes, even after you loosen the clamps completely. If I were you, I'd also buy replacement Torca clamps instead of trying to re-use the old ones. Those can be a pain in the **** to get back on your new pipes after removing them from the old.

Pretty simple and straight forward, but issues certainly can and do arise. I've swapped out about half a dozen slip ons over the years and some come off easy within a few minutes while others required some serious wrestling.

Make sure the mufflers are cold, spray some WD-40 on the clamps beforehand and take your time and don't get frustrated. Depending on which slip ons you get they may install using the stock mounting brackets while other slip ons may require additional brackets and bolts. It's always good to read the instructions beforehand too. Also, make sure you torque all the bolts and clamps to spec once you're done and then recheck the tightness after riding the bike for an hour or so.

make sure the new chrome is clean, don't leave fingerprints on the chrome before you fire up the bike. Not sure what product to use, somebody here will but I think alcohol is good!
