Whatever you do, get a 1200 if you can afford it. Everyone I know that got an 883 wanted more power.

What is she moving up from? At 5'10" she could ride any Harley. Let her decide.

What he said. She should at least look Dynas and Softails. She's taller than me and you can see what I have.

Motorcycles are like guns......... Men should Let the Woman pick what they want.

But i think she should at least set on a 72 and a softail slim and wide glide lol.

Go to the dealership, international motorcycle show, online motorcycle tests, reviews, check out the bikes you're most interested in, and decide. We can't help you because we all have different preferences.

Id personally spend the extra $2-3k and get a dyna..Or search used 11' or 12' dynas and you can pick them up all day for 10k or less...But if you both insist on a sportster id go nightster 1200 or the 72 model..GOOD LUCK!

I have a 97' dyna wide glide with 120" motor and she has attempted to move it - it is too much weight for her to feel comfortable with, forget our Street Glide. She's moving up from a Honda Rebel that SHE has customized with extended controls, etc. We both want her on a bike where 70 mph isn't maxed out. She's been through the MSF classes and done very well, we've slowly speeded up and gone into more and more traffic and now she's ready to move on up. Thanks for the ideas / thoughts.
