We went to BJ at West Palm Beach last year. We might have been stupid enough to pay $20 to get in but it was a great day out. First time I've been to a car auction and I found it interesting, plus we viewed all the cars for a few hours first. They also had current cars to test drive (Corvettes and Mustangs) just for the hell of it, and freebie T shirts.
Yes complete idiots with tens of thousands to millions of dollars to blow on cars for their own amusement.
More money than brains. I have bought and sold more items at auction than most, never never ever pay a buyer's premium, its for suckers, the sellers know they got your sorry *** when you agree to pay it.

Most top-end auction companies charge both a buyer and sellers premium. BJ has proven it simply draws more people and more cash than most other auctions and people will spend more to buy there. The buyers don't mind the premium because they feel they are getting a better car for the money. Good for both of them.
You guys can justify paying a buyer's premium any way you want. It's double dipping any way you look at it. Ever been to the Keeneland September yearling horse sales? $280 million total in sales, best in the country, NO BUYERS PREMIUM. Best Thouroughbred horses in the world. Only the truly stupid pay buyers premiums. Yes its the same.
