I visited a buddy of mine a week after one of the Speedchannel TV auctions. He worked for one of the vendors out front and was selling restored gas pumps there.
He said it a pretty common discussion topic on the number of rich guys who just wanted to get on TV dropping a wad of cash. He said a fair number weren't tried and true car guys and had limited knowledge of what they were buying.
The collectors and car flippers would constantly complain about the "wad droppers" as they were driving prices up.
I've been to Barrat-Jackson auctions, and its one of the best car shows ever. the fact that they charge 20 bucks, so what. You pay for entertainment, and if you're a car guy, you don't mind a bit. as for getting money from both side of the sale, everybody know the rules going in, you factor in the auction fee in the price of the car. When I was there, people knew what was collectable and what wasn't. high prices, maybe, but the values keep going up and they rarely loose money on the purchase. I recommend you go to one, and just look at the cars, the vendors and all that is happening. theres a whole lot more than just the auction, and that costs money to produce

You are the reason BJ is so successful, have fun. Are you kidding me. pay $20 to see some cars? NFW
Maybe you are forgetting that TV is paying them to record the show, the money is coming in. You guys crack me up.
My Dad is part of this world (competes in the Cadillac Nationals frequently) and I go to BJ auctions with him whenever I can... and enjoy it every time.
If I knew this bothered you so much I would have asked your permission before I went there and spent my money.
Oh... I should also ask... I'm going to Vegas next weekend: How many lap dances am I allowed? Is it okay if I sit at a $25 minimum table?
