I have an interview at an HD dealer up the road next Saturday to teach the MSF/Rider's Edge course. There's nothing more satisfying than a part time job you actually like doing.
The instructors I had said that every weekend from April to Oct was filled for them. If your retired I guess it wouldn't be bad, but working everyday at full-time job & then weekends part-time = no riding time....

That's not the case around here. There are enough instructors where you're not working every weekend.
I am doing the same thing here in WA state. It looks fun from the outside, but there is a long road to go from "wanting" to "doing" here. I have to "shadow" four classes, and provide (meaning take and turn in a card) for first aid class ($90), and take the basic rider course within 1 year of the class for instructor candidates($125). In addition to the Basic Rider Course on school bikes, you have to pass the riding test on your personal bike with a tighter scoring criteria, all of this observed by specified "mentor instructors". If you haven't done it in a while, the skills test is heavily biased toward small light bikes. The "IP" (instructor Prep) is four 3 day weekend classes, ($200) not close to the house, which means travel/lodging costs, and then, teach 2 classes as an unpaid student instructor, then 2 classes as a paid student instructor. I had to submit an application to be considered for the course, limited placing etc. After that there is periodic refreshers and a minimum number of classes per year to keep your certification. You wind up an independent contractor, have to get a business license and go through the tax minefield each year. Another hurdle is the skill test has to be passed without any errors. You also basically swear to be a good ambassador for the sport, always have insurance and wear all the gear all the time (ATGATT) so as to set good example for students. Gotta sign ethic clauses too, I am starting to wonder what cult I have entered. Right now I am hoping for a class with a mentor instructor between now and the cutoff date for submissions so I can get my final shadow class in and get the skill test on my personal bike (think I will buy a used Buell Blast for that). All of this and I said nothing about the evaluation as a suitable instructor...
Good luck. I hope it doesn't go to your head like the person I know that is an instructor. Seems like the person feels their **** doesn't stink and will not listen to anything logical. I don't know it all but I have 30 + years more than this person on a bike and what ever they read or think is the way it is. So, keep an opened mind and listen to what others around you have to say, it might be beneficial to everyone. Again, good luck and congrats!

Saw a post where HD was introducing a single cylinder 500 in India. Some speculated it might eventually make it to the US as a Buell Blast replacement. DDuess, had no idea it was that costly and time consuming. Hope to take the Experienced Rider Class soon, just a bit concerned doing emergency stops and figure 8's on my Limited as I do not want to lay it down.

I know what you mean, I have practiced on the Deuce, and the Ultra, but if I am going to learn low speed maneuvers on something the size of an electraglide, I want it to be one someone else is paying to fix, or a cheap bike. Remember, if it starts to tip in, come out on the clutch a little, stands bike right up. Keep engine RPM up and it acts like a gyroscope. I also took all the crap out of the bags, don't need any extra weight... Quick stop is cake, keep your head up looking where you are going.
