Gonna take a guess and say you have a touring bike. My buddy replaced his factory air shocks with progressive shocks and he likes the ride way better. He also has a lowering kit on his street glide with them. A friend who owns a local indy shop and he replaces a lot of the factory touring shocks with progressives. I have a theory that if you are under 200 lbs the factory air shocks on the touring bikes aren't that great solo compared to after market/traditional shocks. I put street glide air shocks on my dyna when I had it. Sucked when it was just me regardless of air pressure, granted they're not designed for a dyna. With the wife on with me it rode like a dream. Seemed that the guys who put SG air shocks on dynas and liked the ride solo were all bigger guys. Like I said its just a theory based off what I have read and i have no real evidence to support it, since i have another friend with a road glide who is less than 200 lbs and doesnt mind the factory shocks.

I just replaced my Street Glide Air Shocks with Progressive 944's they are easy to adjust for two up and back again for solo. The bottoming is much better, the air shocks tried to jolt my spine on big bumps, that's almost entirely gone now. It is also much more stable in corners, I did also add the "Touring Link" as well.

I would highly recommend this change it's pricey but worth it for the comfort and performance it provides, it's no Knee Dragger by any stretch, but it handles much better than factory now.

Got Progressive 944's on my Street Glide. Just got one thing to say if air is all that great why did they put coil over on the CVO Street Glide?

Ohlins for me. I've had Progressive shocks on my Dyna, FX, and Sportster, but I like the Ohlins on a touring bike. The stock shocks on any Harley are one of the things that I think can be improved by replacing them with just about anything else.

In order of increasing cost and comfort: 13" air shocks (I think your SG has 12")--an improvement over the 12" air-shocks, due to the additional inch of travel; Progressive coil-overs, e.g., 440, 940, etc; Ohlins (2's or 3's, see Harold's motorcyclemetal.com site). I had the Progressive (440/940) and both were a big improvement over the stock 12" air-shocks on my RK Custom. I wound up with Ohlins 3-3's and I'm happy with them.
