Default Question about Saddlebags

Hello all, am new to the forums, been lurking around for a while and gathering a lot of information for the past few weeks from all different sources. Am learning to ride in a few days and have a brand new 2013 FXDC lined up to buy. I am curious about saddlebags. I do want to have them for when I take trips, however most of the time I will want them off of the bike. I'm not really interested throw-over saddlebags as I will have a solo seat on the bike and don't want to risk damaging the paint (and also because they aren't as big as other types). So my question is, how hard is it to remove/re-attach rigid/fixed bags?

edit: forgot to mention I wanted to avoid going with quick detach bags to save myself some cash

It's not that big a deal, I don't think. I have Saddlemen Drifter bags hard-mounted on my Dyna, and removing them means pulling 4 strut bolts, remove bags, then re-attach bolts. Also, I used the supplied blinker extenders that came with the Saddlemen bags rather than move the blinkers to the tag area, so I have to disconnect the wires, pull the wires through the extenders, reconnect wires & bolt them to the rear hole on the struts. It's a 20-min job max to remove or add. If you will need to pull them every other week, forget it & get quick-detatch hdwr. If only 2-3X per year for trips, no biggie to pull em, IMHO.

I have QD bags from Boss Bags and use the QD feature all the time. It certainly makes cleaning the bike much easier. It makes removal a 30 second deal. Attaching takes a few seconds more.

Look around the Viking Bags site. www.vikingbags.com. They seem to be having a sale now. Take a look at their options and maybe it'll fit in your price range. Either way, sometimes it's better to spend a few bucks more up front.

My Bike has an engine in it what a motor in the engine that powers the battery which in turn powers the electrical system so........

If a Chicken in a Duck in a Turkey is a Turduckin. Then I guess that our bikes have an Engmotcell in them. Or something like that.

We sell a Quick disconnect system for all our bags, its 99 dollars. You mount the bracket to the bag, then you will put two posts on your bike. use the key to unlock the bracket from the posts, or to lock it on to them. takes 5-10 seconds each. If you need a recommendation, give me a call 888-208-1949 ask for bobby and mention you are a member of the forum to get a discount.
