Default Throw over saddlebags

I have been looking at saddlebags for my sporty for a while now. I like the Viking bags looks and with some added hardware from Great bike gear I could have a nice setup for about $600 +/- They would be lockable quick release etc. The only reason I would be using them would be when the wife went with me for an overnight trip. She talks about it but not sure it will actually happen. Most of my riding is an hour or two away at most and I am thinking of just getting some throw over bags like these La Rosa bags here.

Amazon Amazon

Less than half the money and less hassle when I took them off. Any big drawbacks to throw over bags I might be missing?

Sissybar bags are another option. They can be used for more than motorcycle travel. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00YS9YL..._t3_B0027M16PC

I use throw over bags for quick trips to the store. I got some cheap ones on Amazon. It requires you to remove the one seat screw to lay them on the frame. It works for me on those rare occasions.

Hard bags are nice because there is lees of a chance of a thief making off with your bags.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that "throw overs" which come in direct contact with the paint, tend to create wear marks.

That's a thought. I currently have one of these HD messenger bags when I have the sissy bar on and figured adding saddlebags would give enough room for overnight.

HD Messenger Bag
But I could possibly change it with a bigger bag if we travel over night.

Remember to put the bag hardware or the will have a tendency to swing inward, possibly hitting the tire. Even if they don't hit the wheel, doing that will make your bike look terrible.

I've gone cross country on my FXR with simple leather throw over bags. Whatever you put in them that you want to stay dry use plastic bags.

Reminds me to dig them up and give them a good saddlesoap.

No wear on the paint. The bags are rubbing on the shocks and showing some wear.
