Is anyone aware of a commercially available foot throttle? My wife cannot hold a twist throttle open for more than a few minutes before her hand goes numb. The throttle tension adjuster would have to hold the throttle open on its own to alleviate the problem.
If I could find a commercially available foot throttle, I believe I could get her back on the road.
We don't do highway trips any more, just day rides with lots of hills and curves, so cruise control would not help much.
I've thought about that myself and seems it shouldn't be very hard to do. I would find a good fabricator in your area and tell them what you want to do. I would think it could be done so that you wouldn't have to relocate the rear brake.
ok , i have had probs with my hands and arms going numb after about 20 mins. to 1/2 hr.... what i have done is changed the handle bar position, added a cramp buster, put a backrest on and invested into a really good mustang seat... my wife also rides a 883 sporty and she to has had some probs. with her hands getting almost numb, so we changed the grips and added a back rest and seat and now she has no problems.. she is a new rider of 2 yrs so it has been left to me to instruct her as to why she was having the issues....
another thing is that she was told, that if she sits on the bike in a riding position while i hold the bike up, close her eyes and grab for "bars" then her hands will go to a natural riding position that is right for her
This is the first thing I thought of. In cold weather, my fingers get cold so I point them into the wind and need something like this. At least having to grip the bar is gone.
Seems to me you'd have to change the clutch and shifter as well. Has she tried a throttle boss?
I have seen pictures of a very well made, home-made, foot throttle, but it was machined from billet material and would require a machine shop. It was on the right side, outboard of and below the foot brake. It had no effect on the brake or shifter. It looked very nice, but I can't find one commercially available. I am trying to contact the guy who made the one I saw.
She has tried two different kinds of the throttle boss type attachments, but they didn't work because you have to install them at a low angle where your wrist is cocked back, like you are taught to do in the safety courses, in order to limit unintended throttle twist. When her wrist is cocked back, even while using the throttle boss without gripping the grip, her hand still goes numb.
