I have stopped or, at least I try the 'ok' sign. I am not mechanically adept, nor do I carry any tools with me, but I at least have a cell phone on me at all times - just in case. Never know when it will be me standing on the side of the road.

so what exactly is the signal to see if someone is ok when you are just driving by them? Is it just the universal OK sign making a circle with your thumb and index finger? Just curious.

I'm not sure there is one, Ted. Most of the time you just stop and have to go again...damn smokers.

pilot1996 & I must be related! As my saying "Always pat it forward." God has given me a gift to be in the right place at the right time because about once a week I have had the opportunity to help someone in need, not just stranded. My life in enriched for it.

I've stopped but never had anyone that needed my help. I'm all about paying it forward too.

Yep is the short answer...

I always carry a cell phone.. cause you know I"m the mechanical weakling here. I have a few tools on the bike so they could be helpful.

I stop at every bike I see on the road, so far none have been in trouble just taking a break so we shoot the chit and offer safe rides and carry on. I've met some nice people from those and I can always have a smoke and talk about the ride they are on or I'm on.

I stop for flats for cars and over the years have changed a few and carried a few. Like its been said I would want someone helping my wife if she has trouble if I'm not around.

The really cool thing to me, is how I changed when I started riding, I never stopped for anyone before. Now I do for everyone. The bike gave me an attitude adjustment for the better.

I'd stop f or somebody stuck as long as it looked legit, around here there is a chance that they would borrow your ride if theirs was broken

Here's from the other end of the deal:

My first bike & ride was on a '72 XLCH chop, going from S.F. to Idaho Falls. Near Sacremento two HAs helped me repair my generator - they bought the parts. Going over Donner Pass a pump jockey gave me some gloves - I was riding through the first snow storm of the season, dressed for a cool summer evening. Another pump jockey in Nevada let me keep my bike in the garage area overnight, hooked up to a charger 'cause my generator was on the fritz again. His wife ran a motel behind the station and let me stay gratis, fed me, and dropped off a 6-pack while I worked on my generator, again. Further down the road in Nevada, an old cowboy hauled the bike & me back into town when the sprocket rivets sheared. He dropped me at a weld shop where the owner tacked it back together for free.

After all that, I've always figured I'd better stop for any and every one!

Everyone should help a rider (or a cager) when he has the opportunity and I believe the vast majority of those on this forum will do it always. Not only will you have helped someone but I guarantee it will also make your own day a lot brighter.

Where were you people when we broke down last Saturday??? I always stop for a bike on the side of the road to see if they are ok. Wether I'm on the bike or in a cage, I stop. I always wave to other bikers IF it's safe AND I see them... Now, we broke down on our way home from the Smokies and no less than 25 bikes (mostly HD) past by us and not 1 person stop to see if we needed help. NO ONE! [:@] Some would wave, some would toot their horn and most just ignored us. My wife was fit to be tied! Says she'll NEVER wave to another biker or want me to stop to help. Of course, she's over it by now and will want to stop but it sure made her mad. Me? It didn't make me mad but it sure confused me... In the past when I've been on the side of the road, I'd have to wave the bikers off. Everyone stopped... I just don't understand today's bikers... but I'll continue to stop 'cause I've been there, several times.
