Went on my second group ride with hog grop today. These group rides seem to stress me out any way,but we were cruising along around 70 mph , I was the 5th bike from the leader when the second bike hit a patch of oil in the road , it was in the right hand driving lane. He went down ! The two n front of me managed to avoid him and his bike somehow, and I also avoided trouble. Someone behind me hit the oil also and she went down and also took out her husband. No one was seriously hurt ! But it could have been a lot worse. The old domino effect. Not a good feeling seeing a man and a bike tumbling down the road at 70. The guy is probably in his seventies, the emt got there and said" CAN YOU TELL ANY THING IN PARTICULAR THAT IS HURT?" And the guy says "I can hear just fine". I was never sure these group rides were for me any way , too many bikes too close together usually goin too fast ..... I dunno ? Which leads me to my next post. Riding thru oil.
Sounds like a **** for a day.
Anyway I think it's the people you ride with not group rides in general.
If riding alone is what you want though by all means screw riding in groups.
Myself I'm too nervous about rear ending someone to ride in a big group lol.
If ya don't know your riding buddies very well, ya need to give them plenty of room. I'm sure the HOG group doesn't make you ride in a tight group even if they do keep the groups to only 4 or 5 bikes.
I learned to ride in tight groups up in Michigan were we had to ride close together to stay warm in the winters.

I wasn't sure about joining hog group anyway , this really has nothing to do with hog more to do with group riding! I'm more of a loner. But I thought I would give it a try for the social aspect , once again I'm really more of a loner ,
I don't mind the social aspect of riding in groups, they're great for meeting new people, which I like. I've just witnessed all too many times people not paying attention to what's going on in front of them. Or, instead of looking ahead of the bike in front of them, they focus only on the tail light of the bike in front of them. If the bike in front of you ain't paying attention, well, you're screwed. Many times I've seen people nearly rear end another bike, or me. My brother-in-law and my wife enjoy poker runs and they do their best to try and twist my arm into riding them. No thanks.
